Clelland’s follow-up to The Messengers, this further collection of Stories From The Messengers, does something for me that few books on the UFO phenomenon actually do anymore: it wakes me up. It makes me feel excited about the connections being made, and the thought behind them. This has become a litmus test for me for what has merit regarding research into this experience, as I think it is also central to the vital human response to it. If the work leads deeper, if it makes connections along lines of meaning that are not ends in themselves or mere rabbit-holes of paranoia (though that can easily happen), if it inspires me or even makes me want to be a better person, then it has real value. It touches on something central and shared and very difficult about the psyche; and this is where, in my opinion, these elusive phenomena we call UFOs or abductions or what-have-you themselves seem to be reaching. Stories From The Messengers has this vital quality. The Sutra of the owl responds to Clelland’s inquiry with story. These extraordinarily strange narratives are rendered accessible by Clelland’s gentle insight, and his oftentimes peripheral if symbolic involvement serves to further the reach of their mystery. This is a singular work. It does not reach conclusions, but invites further and interesting questions along lines not typically considered.
If you're looking at this book, I would recommend that you read the first Messengers book, as this is a supplement to it. In this book, Mike Clelland narrates stories he's collected over the years pertaining to people's mysterious encounters with owls, UFOs, and other-worldly beings. I really respect Mr. Clelland's work; he's grappling with some profound and - currently - unanswerable questions about the very nature of our reality. One thing I appreciate is the fact that he makes no bones about these questions being unanswerable. And, as an added bonus, you might run into some spooky synchronicities while reading this book. I also appreciate Mr. Clelland's courage in being open about the deep struggles he has endured in the course of his work.
I got chills reading it! I have only begun reading it, but already I am realizing things that I've never noticed before. It is very intriguing! I can't wait to read more!
The criteria for validity that The the author used; was… is it crazy enough ?!But The criteria that I prefer, is; Is The story incomplete ?All of these stories are too refined, invariably including a moral or deeper meaning that makes these contacts events ‘complete’ !A believable quixotic story should leave you hanging, while all of these seemed like they were written by a first year novelist !
Mike’s books don’t attempt to answer the question of what UFOs are, but that’s not the point. It’s about how people’s interactions with UFOs seems to create connections with the unexplained, the nature of reality, and each other. There are no simples answers, but Mike does a great job in telling these stories in order to raise questions for the readers to examine.
The book was interesting but there were so many grammatical errors I found it annoying. Did anyone proofread this?The story was good but hard to believe. I've never seen an owl outside a zoo.
I wished it would never end...hope there's a third book coming.
