I wish they sold this individually (thus cheaper) instead of a guide for all 33 exams. I only needed the one for American Government. Under than my little whine, this guide is good. It is important to note that this is just a guide. There's really nothing on this book except a breakdown of the exams and about 90 sample questions for each exams. You would need to buy other actual study materials.The sample questions are worth their weigh in gold though. I took it right before actually studying for the exam and it is helping me figure out what is important and what is not while I am reading/studying the actual study material.
Great study guide. Highly recommend! I just passed my CLEP on American History 2 (1865 - present). I studied Newman's "United States History" and after I was finished I went over review questions in this Study Guide. It really focuses attention to the events and situations CLEP requires you to know for this exam.
I studied with this book, plus two other supplemental books and 3 different 90 minute online practice exams. When I say study, I mean I wrote down each incorrect answer and researched the subject deeper than what was in the study materials. When I actually took the exam, about 3/4 of the questions were not on ANY of the study materials. And all 6 practice ones did not have overlapping questions. I was able to pass by 2 points, and I was able to use deductive reasoning to figure out some of the responses. If you get the book make sure you supplement and use additional resources as this book alone will not suffice.
I bought this in conjuction with the REA Spanish Clep preparation book to prepare for the Spanish CLEP. Ultimately, I achieved a high enough score to pass the first tier with a score of 55 but did not get the next tier score of 63. This book is only good for getting you familiar with the format of the test, and seeing where you are lacking. The problem with this book is that it has ONE example test. For me, that is a problem because my memory works against me in that I will remember the correct answer the second time around, not because I have sufficient knowledge, but because I know the answer to THAT particular question. If you are taking multiple clep tests, I would recommend this book. Otherwise I would recommend just getting the REA CLEP prep books as they have 2 versions of a practice test. In any case, this, and any CLEP prep book, should be among the LAST books you look at, because the practice test is only good for telling you your weakness the first time.
This was very helpful for understanding what to expect. I especially like that it has all CLEP exam options. It had me looking into using CLEP for more than just the one class. I am going to save a ton testing out of the courses.

This does NOT provide all the information you need to do well on the tests. This does provide the overview you need to see what's going to be on the specific tests and how the information will be tested.
I bought this to see how different it was from my 2011 edition. This 2017 edition has about 20-30 more questions per test. The rest of the questions are almost all the same. The extra practice questions make this edition worth updating to.I've read elsewhere that the 2016, 2017 and 2018 editions are more or less the same. Save your money and buy a used copy of an earlier edition.Use these after you've studied at ModernStates and feel more confident in taking the CLEP test.
