Ennis's final volume of Preacher is solid, but not perfect: Jesse remains too moral despite some moments harsh justice, Tulip's sole motivation is the love of Jesse, and Herr Star becomes a cartoonish monster. The theological allegory becomes heavy-handed, and the body count seems extreme. For ultra-violent satire, it works but as a story with cohesive character growth, only Cassidy and the Saint of Killers actually have proper character arcs. All the loose strings are tied up and killed, sometimes literally, and the everything does cohere, but in a way, it felt a bit underwhelming.
Awesome series and these Preacher Books will let you enjoy the graphic comics without having to search thru bins and pay marked up prices now that the tv series has picked up speed! Looking forward to Book Six as I'm almost done with Book Five. You can't tell what the next page will bring! Well written and the artwork is amazing. Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon are a great team. Cover art by Glenn Fabry is mind blowing!
Few great comics have great endings because by their very nature most comics don’t ever really end. Sure an arc here will finish and another immediately begins.Preacher isn’t a great comic, it’s a great story. Story’s have beginnings, middles and most importantly endings.
it did and I liked the series. its offbeat concept of god and the heavenly hierarchy is more than interesting..... I have read a couple of graphic novel series and they deliver the story with visuals in tune with it. the key is story and character. I resisted graphic novels until I de-coupled them from the comic books I grew up with. they are not that and I can see why they are popular. it was a good read
The over the top sentimentality kept me from giving it 5 stars. I hoped for a bigger ending (a showdown between God and Jessie) but the ending is still a good read - an affirmation of humanity in all of its complexity.
A good and happy ending to all the msin characters. Lots of twists snd turns, and the fight between Jesse and Csssidy is awesome. It was a fitting end to one of the greatest comic stories of all time, even though I didn't want it to end.
The end of the one of the greatest series of all time. Garth and Steve wrap up the brilliant Preacher. If one believes in Political correctness, or not putting religious beliefs on the line, this is NOT the series for you. Outrageous, thought provoking and never gentle, this series stands the test of time. Simply brilliant.
So, this is the end. The final collection of Preacher. So how was it?This was one of the weirder endings to a series that I've read. On the one hand, all of the major characters got plenty of time devoted to their endings, wrapping up there character arcs and riding off into the sunset. That was done well. But, doing so took so much time that it felt like the actual main plot of Jessie calling God to account felt like an after thought. This really needed more issues to wrap that up in a satisfying way.Needless to say, this was still a blast to read anyway you see it.Oh, and I should mention any problems with the kindle edition have been fixed.
