Look, the Cyrillic alphabet isn't that hard to learn. I just watched a video on YouTube several times and learned it in a couple of days. You can also just go on google translate and see where the accent of each word is. I like that this coloring book doesn't have pronounciation suggestions using the Roman alphabet, because those are a crutch if you really want to learn Russian.What I have done with my daughter is practice each word, and then when we have the word down we color it in. We are also using other resources to learn other parts of speech (this book just has nouns) and grammar, including the declensions of the nouns we learn in this book. (You have to do that unless you just want to know how to point stuff and say the names).This book is such a fun component of learning Russian. Highly recommend.
The print is very small and a faded color. I find it difficult to read. I wish it had the English translation and word along with the Russian word. It is sometimes difficult to see what the word is describing. Not a good teaching tool.
This is a great learning tool that doubles as a coloring book. However, there is no pronunciation help. I have had no Russian language training and bought a few books to help myself get familiar with the language. Unfortunately, this book will be useless until I finish memorizing the alphabet sounds.
The idea of learning with pictures is a good one. Pictures really do aid memory. The biggest problem with the book is the lack of a pronunciation guide. The Russian language is very irregular in its stress patterns. Therefore, the glossary in the back of the book should have some way of indicating which syllables are stressed. This would be a simple fix. In subsequent editions, authors could print the stresses syllables in bold type.I suggest that future editions either be sold with a CD or with a pronunciation guide.If the authors make this change, the book will be an excellent teaching tool.
Kids had a ton of fun with the first two pages, but the other reviewers are right - it's hard to figure out which word goes with which picture. I speak Russian and my kids are in a Russian school here but they just don't speak and hardly learn anything (they were born here and speak English and Spanish, but Russian is a struggle). So, as as coloring book, it's good, but as a Russian-learning aid, - not so much.
Good simple way to expand your vocabulary of Russian words (even for adults). The word list in the back is helpful. You will need to know the Cyrillic alphabet to understand pronunciations.
I was very unhappy with this book. Trying to self teach myself some Russian words and the alphabet for vacation. The pictures are in black and white - there are so many objects on a page and the translation is small font. Confusing to me. I've found better Russian aids to learn from.
This book is cute, but it will NOT help you learn Russian words, unless you know Russian. The book has no color, like a coloring book. We speak English so obviously cannot pronounce the words as there is no phonetic spelling or the like. It should be advertised as a Russian Childrens Learning Coloring book.
